2015 | Winter Growth Challenge

I started my winter hair challenge December 20th, as soon as the season changed. I decided to do a heat challenge because its too cold for me to continue wash n go’s. Welp, that lasted a month! The first time I straightened my hair and loved it (check out my Instagram for pics). The second time was two weeks later, at which time I went ahead and got a professional trim.

It’s two weeks later, and I decided a month of heat was enough. I have no heat damage and I want to keep it that way. Plus, its impossible to keep my hair straight while exercising 7 days a week, so I decided to do a winter braid out challenge. Yep, braid outs! I usually stay away from braid outs because they take too long to take down, but I figure if I do less braids, I’ll be ok.

It has been forever and a day since I did a braid out, so I plan to start doing them next weekend when its not a day off. In the mean time I did a twist out post wash this weekend (video will be up later this week). Anyways, the challenge rules:

Wash my hair weekly
Moisturize and seal daily
No-restyling (too much manipulation)
Finger detangle only

Shhh!!! I am slowly becoming a finger detangling convert (more on that later). Anyways, this challenge will continue until Spring, March 20th, at which time I will do a length update and trim.

Until then, Happy Growing!!!!

Heat challenge? Sounds like a bad idea….especially in the winter when our hair needs more moisture. What was the point of it?

Hi! I live in Florida, so this is actually the ideal time of year to wear my hair straight. We have temps from the 60s to 80s with lower humidity (Thank God!). The point of the challenge was to keep my hair stretched by blowdrying every 2 to 3 weeks, but with running so much, my hair reverted fast. Oh well, on to braid outs…..

Oooooh, okay, makes more sense now. I live in Canada so winter to me is a verrrrry different thing. Lol. Also every 2-3 weeks isn’t so bad. 🙂
