Earlier this year I was so busy that I was just going and going, not taking any time to breathe. Now that school is over and I am not juggling a full time career with graduate school, I am dedicated to living my best life. Is life stress free? Never, but I am making an effort to take better care of myself and to be a little more responsive to my needs. Right now, my happiness stems from…
Last month, I decided to re-focus on healthy habits and making healthy choices. In the first few weeks I focused on getting back into running, and fitness in general. I paid for a 20 class package at my favorite yoga studio in town and got back into flow. Eventually, I decided to focus on retreating from daily sweets by embarking on a seven day detox that ends today. No, I didn’t go on a fast. Instead I decided to simply stay away from processed sugars and gluten.
I lost three pounds on the detox, and my healthy habits are definitely back on track. My dog loves running with me each morning, and yoga is helping me to feel fit and tone without the pressure of the weight room. Moving forward I plan to continue to stay away from processed sugars, and limit my gluten intake for awhile.
It feels soooo good to get back into reading for pleasure. After having to cram several scholarly articles and books on a regular basis, reading for pleasure is a treat. I love crawling into my favorite chair and cracking the spine of a new book. At the moment I am reading both Octavia Butler’s Kindred, which is a historical/fantasy novel, and the Alienist by Caleb Carr which is a mystery for which a television adaptation is in the works.
Of course, my September TBR is in the works as well. My most recent purchase is the Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling) Corman Strike Series. I purchased all three books from Amazon on the low. Of course I will read a few works by James Baldwin, which leaves room for more. What have you read and enjoyed lately?
Playing In Makeup
I recently re-did my woman cave, and changed how I display my beauty products. It’s true what they say. Now that my products are on display, I am using them more. Lately I have been playing with my various eyeshadow palette’s, and of course nail polish. Check out my Instagram for regular nail polish posts.
Can we take a moment and talk about the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette. I purchased the palette in early July, and knew from the moment I swatched the shadows that this palette is fantastic. Its such a brown girl friendly palette, and luckily I was able to purchase it from Ulta during a 5x points promotion! I have truly been living for this palette!
Just Being Me
The most important part of living my best life is focusing on my wants and needs. It may not be evident from reading my blog or watching my youtube channel, but I am an introvert. Accordingly, I LIKE staying home. I enjoy sitting around my place, playing with my dog, and talking with my boyfriend over a great meal. I enjoy taking a long bath, pampering my skin, and playing in my hair. Also, keeping my house clean and neat is a quick daily chore that allows me peace.
I enjoy the ability to go out with friends at my leisure. Right now I can choose to spend my weekends with others at the movies, the symphony, or enjoying cultural events in my city. At the same time, I can choose to stay home and watch Netflix or Youtube.
Do I have all of life mastered? No. Do I live worry free? Absolutely not. But is it necessary for me to reach perfection to live my best life? Hell No. It’s the little things that make life great, and occasionally I remind myself to take stock of the good things in order to appreciate how wonderful my life really is right now. For the rest of August, I will continue to live this life of leisure and focus on self care….because by September I will probably feel the need to be busy again 🙂 #introvertedextrovert.
