My Pre-Wash Routine | Natural Haircare

wash and go kinky curly mixed chicks

I love my natural hair, and I enjoy the wash day process. However, this was not always so. I have hair that is prone to dryness and easily tangles which leads to single strand knots. Over the years I have learned how to prevent tangles and breakage with my pre-wash routine. The steps I take before I soak my hair with water are essential to a smooth, quick, yet gentle natural hair washing sessions.

The Routine

*Kinky Curly Knot Today – I mix water and conditioner in a spray bottle (5:1), and thoroughly spritz my hair to lubricate for handling. Then I section my hair into 10 sections, working section by section to gently separate my strands and cut out any knots.

*Fantasia IC 100% Natural Jamaican Black Castor Oil – I massage my scalp with Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) to moisturize the skin, and loosen up any debris that may clog the hair follicle.

*Nutiva Virgin Coconut Oil – I then apply coconut oil to the section and twist before moving on to the next. Coconut oil prevents the shaft from swelling as much during the wash process, which prevents hydral fatigue.

I now use less product in my weekly haircare routine, and instead use my products in multiple ways. This means I could spend less on haircare (if I wasn’t such a product junkie), and that I use up what I purchase so as not to waste.  I hope you enjoyed this video, and I am thinking about posting a list of hair products I have tried with little reviews as a reference for kinky, dryness prone naturals. I would love to know your thoughts on the idea!
