My Self-Care Sunday Routine

About half way through the Spring semester I realized that I needed to do something to take care of myself on a regular basis. I found myself going, going, going, and not taking care of myself as well as I had before life became extra busy. Plus, I needed to find some way to dump all of the thoughts running through my mind, while allowing myself time to actually rest post intense exercise. This led to the beginning of my self care routine.

  1. I started by choosing a day each week to bask in a great bath time pamper routine. This routine includes skincare, a good soak, and my favorite tea and tome. However, I exercise quite a bit each week, so by Sunday my body can be pretty sore. Resultantly, I take time each Sunday to do a full yoga stretch routine in which I spend at least a minute in each pose to release the soreness and tension from my body.
  2. Well this took care of my body self care, but I still needed to take care of my mind, so I decided to take a moment each Sunday and journal. I get all of my thoughts out, reflect on my week, reflect on my hopes and anything else I can think of (a little self guided meditation). These elements have allowed my brain and body a good rest each Sunday, but I wanted to take this self care idea a couple of steps further.
  3. Eventually I decided that I should take a full day in order to ensure a fresh presence come Monday. This includes a planning session, and because it is Self Care Sunday, I can spend as little or as much time as I desire planning the next week or month. Lastly, I really enjoy time spent with my man, and time together can only help our relationship, so I added a meal and/or a movie to this day each week.

This may seem like a lot for a relaxing Sunday, but remember its not just a lazy day, its a day to take care of myself emotionally as well as physically, which requires more than just vegging out in front of the television. To make all of this possible, I really push through Saturday to get my work done, to grocery shop and meal prep, to run errands, nail care, wash my hair and to clean everything necessary to leave Sunday free for self care.
