A couple of years ago, the “Tightly Curly Method” was just as popular as the “Curly Girl Method.” Both focus on maintaining curly hair in its naturally curly state, staying away from sulfates and cones. However, the tightly curly method encourages smoothing the curls with just conditioner, and the curly girl method encourages the use of gel/styling products.
Up until two days ago, it never occurred to me to give the tightly curly method a try because using tools in my hair generally leads to frizz AND the curly girl method is just more visible. However, the other day I came across this Youtuber with GORGEOUS type 4 hair that uses the method:
Did you see her hair!!!! It is sooooo gorgeous! Frizz and all! Don’t get me wrong, the method seems tedious, but I like that it doesn’t incorporate gel. This led me to looking at more videos of ladies with type 4 hair that have tried the Tightly Curly Method. The results were mixed. I honestly think how much the person liked their result depended on how they felt about curl definition (totally other topic there).
Regardless, I plan to give the tightly curly method a go! If this method works for me, it could be especially great with washing my hair several times a week during the warm months. Spring is in the air and I am itching to do a wash n go, so I will give this method a try soon. Have you tried the tightly curly method? What was your experience?
