One thing I have learned over the years is that sulfate free does not necessarily mean moisturizing or gentle. I have tried many cleansers, but would not use most of them on a regular basis. However, I have found five favorite cleansers that fit the bill.

I am particular about what cleanser I use because cleanser can be a nightmare or absolutely wonderful. Cleanser needs to actually clean products off my strands, while moisturizing, and not causing more tangles. Check out the video below for more details:
My Top 5 Favorite Cleansers
There is a great moisturizing cleanser out there for $5 and a great cleanser for $20. Also, price does not indicate better ingredients. Instead, there are just some great cleansers out there and some that aren’t worth much. My top 5 favorite cleansers include…
*Creme of Nature Moisture & Shine Shampoo with Argan Oil: This is an olide but a goodie. Creme of nature is steady changing the ingredients of their cleansers, but none the less, this is a moisturizing shampoo that does not tangle the hair. It is not as moisturizing as my favorites, but it’s still great for the price.
Ingredients: Aqua (Water) (Eau), Trideceth-7 Carboxylic Acid, Decyl Glucoside, Glycol Stearate, Polyquaternium-10, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, Quaternium-15, Parfum (Fragrance), Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, CI 14700 (Red 4), CI 19140 (Yellow 5).
*Camille Rose Naturals Sweet Ginger Cleansing Rinse: This holy grail cleanser hits all the marks. It cleanses well, moisturizes, doesn’t cause tangles, and is easy to use.
Ingredients: Water, Infused Ginger Root, Aniseed Oil, Cassia Oil, Cocamidopropyl Betaine (Derived from Coconuts), Sodium Cocoyl Isethionates (Coconut Cleanser), Glycol Distearate (Cream Emollient), Disodium Cocoamphodipropionate (Derived from Coconuts), Ricinus Communis, (Castor) Seed Oil, Polysorbate 20, Polyquatemium-10, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Essential Scents and LOVE!
*Dr. Wood Raw Black Soap with Shea Butter: This cleanser is the closes your are going to get to a diy product. It contains black soap, oils, and preservatives. It lathers well, spreads easily, doesn’t cause tangles, and is fairly moisturizing.
Ingredients: Purified water (aqua), saponified coconut, hemp and olive oils (with retained glycerin), pure black soap, organic shea butter (butyrospermum parkii)*, fragrance, tocopherol (vitamin E), sea salt, citric acid, panthenol (pro vitamin B5), rosemary (rosemarinus officinalis) extract, natural caramel. *Certified Organic by Ecocert S.A.
*DevaCurl No-poo Decadance Ultra Moisturizing Milk Cleanser: The only cleansing conditioner I will use. The DevaCurl is a little thick, but unlike most co-washes and cleansing conditioners, you do not have to let this sit on your hair to do the job. Plus, it rinses clean. It’s not a moisturizing as the others, but it’s still a great product.
Ingredients: Water (Aqua, Eau), Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Isopropyl Palmitate, Behentrimonium Chloride, Laureth-4, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Propylene Glycol, Cyperus Esculentus Tuber Extract, Hydrolyzed Quinoa, Melissa Officinalis Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Polyquaternium-7, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance (Parfum).
*Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil: I freakin love this shampoo, but it is the most expensive of the bunch. Nope, it’s not natural, but boy is it amazing. My hair not only feels moisturized after using this cleanser by Ouidad, it also feels smooth!
