Beauty Hair Care Wash Day

Wash Day | Protective Style Recovery

wash day

My first wash day back in my own space was all about recovery. While in Colorado I wore individual braids for 5 weeks, I did several wash and go’s, and twist outs. Thus in ten weeks time I had not done a single treatment other than deep conditioning with moisturizing products, so I sat down this wash day for a little hair TLC.

The Process

I began the night before I planned to wash with an oil treatment. I lightly misted my hair with water and applied the IC Fantasia 100% Jamaican Black Castor Oil to my scalp and slathered my strands in coconut oil. Then I put my hair in a bun, put on a plastic cap, a satin bonnet and slept in the oil treatment over night.

qhemet shampooI did not feel the need to warm the oil as my hair would warm with the caps on while I slept. The next morning I went through and separated my strands, while extracting as much shed hair as possible. Then I hopped in the shower and gave my hair a good cleanse. It had been 10 weeks since I used any clarifying shampoo, so I brought out my trusty Qhemet Biologics Egyptian Wheatgrass Cleansing Tea to strip my hair of all of the gunk and to prep it for conditioning.

ouidad maskI then used my Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner (aka old faithful) to give my hair a quick condition and finger detangle. Once my hair was tangle free I hopped out the shower to apply the Ouidad Extreme Melt Down Repair Mask in order to bring my hair back to balance. I put on my Thermal Conditioning cap for 20 minutes and cleaned up my house for a bit. Then I rinsed and styled.

It’s going to take a few hot oil treatments to get my hair back to its usual state, but the Ouidad went a long way in restoring my hair to its usual coily lustre.

What treatments do you use to bring your hair back to life post protective style?
