It has been five weeks since I sat down and set my hair in mini twists. They took just shy of a week to do and I wore them for a full four weeks. My scalp was definitely itchy and my hair was going towards the dry end of the spectrum, so yesterday I finally took apart the mini twists. I separated each twist, and gave my hair a thorough finger detangle as I went, in order to get all shed hair out. It has been over a month since I washed my hair, so the fur ball of shed hair was quite large. Post protective style, I always pamper my hair and give it plenty of loving, so I dedicated this wash day to restoration.
After finger detangling, I saturated my hair with water and applied a hot oil mixture (vitamin e, sunflower, grapeseed, olive, and coconut oil). I then applied a plastic cap and my Hot Head Conditioning cap, and sat around for 20 minutes or so.
Afterward, I used the Coco Curls Shampoo twice to give my scalp and hair a thorough cleanse. Then I applied It’s a 10 Miracle Mask to try and restore elasticity to my strands. I put on a plastic cap and sat under my hooded dryer for another 20 minutes and rinsed. Then, I applied the Alikay Naturals Honey and Sage deep conditioner.
I detangled, put on the same plastic cap and sat under my hooded dryer for ANOTHER 20 minutes and rinsed. The goal was to give my hair some deep moisture for soft happy hair. What happened? Well, that was the first time I used the Alikay DC with heat, and I have to say, it works a whole lot better without heat :-(. Regardless, I was finished.
I applied the As I Am Leave-In Conditioner and attempted to style my hair in the “15 Minute Protective Style” from fusionofcultures latest video to dry. Attempted is the operative word, because it looks very “meh.” Next time, I will let the top of my hair dry a little more before styling so its more stretched and pliable. I had to leave the house, so I just went with what you see above!
I plan to style my hair in a flat twist and curl tomorrow (which I will film), so stay tuned in to the blog and my youtube channel for a glimpse of that style.
How was your wash day?
