It really seems as if new makeup launches every single day. Whether that be true or not, I keep up to date via Instagram. Following brand pages really does give you a first look at upcoming products, swatches, and any deals coming the way of the consumer. I am a practical makeup hoarder, so I do not own a big stash, and keep my duplicate purchases to one medium; eye shadow. Otherwise, I keep just enough makeup for an everyday look, for when I need to beat my face and a few options tailored to the season of the year.

In 2019, I am keeping my eye on black-owned cosmetic brands, alongside a few influencer collaborations, and I have stumbled onto a few new favorites. New foundation just exploded onto the market, and I plan to try a few. However, earlier this year, Mented Cosmetics launched their ‘Skin by Mented’ stick foundation. Mented Cosmetics is a black-owned brand available online, so I was excited to purchase a sample pack to try before committing to the full-size stick. After one wear test, I was sold and purchased the full-size stick plus a few nude lipsticks.

Mented Cosmetics wins the title for brown girl “go-to brand for nude lip color.” The vast variety is unbeatable, and ‘Peach Please” was my staple for all of Spring. Then Summer hit, and I wanted a glossy lip so I shopped my own stash, and tried my Pat McGrath Lust lipgloss trio. Full stop: You need ‘Bronze Temptation’ in your life. Whether you purchase the lipgloss, lipstick, or lip pencil, get you some!

Last but certainly not least, we have a new stand out released to stores just last week: the Anastasia Beverly Hills X Jackie Aina eyeshadow palette! Jackie did not come to play. The Jackie Aina palette brings me a full 14 pigmented shades, of which I can use every single one. So many palettes are geared toward fair-skinned eyelids, and though the cost is still a good bang for the buck, there are usually a few shades in an eyeshadow palette unsuited to my dark skin. The Jackie Aina palette is now the exception and the rule. Earlier this year I purchased the ABH Soft Glam palette, so I know the eyeshadow formula well. The colors in the Jackie Aina palette first sold me, but how the colors pop against my skin sealed the deal. Though I have purchased a fair amount of makeup this year, in my opinion, these are the stand out products worth your coins thus far in 2019.

Still on my 2019 Makeup Wishlist:

  1. Mented Cosmetics blushes
  2. Mented Cosmetics everyday eyeshadow palette
  3. Mented Cosmetics bronzer
  4. Uoma Beauty Stay Woke Concealer

The Mented Blush is a must have also. I tried the eyeshadow palette first and fell in love with the pigmentation so tried the blush. I too want to try the bronzer and it’s on my wishlist. The nude lipsticks and glass as great as well.

I’ve been loving the Mented cosmetics nude lippies since they first dropped. The shades are perfect! The Jackie Aina ABH palette is so stunning. It glides on smoothly and the colors are a deep melanated girls dream!
