I’m taking my capsule wardrobe up a notch to include black-owned brands.

I’ve written a few times about my journey toward owning a carefully curated year-round capsule wardrobe. Though I haven’t updated on my purchases lately, I have continued to focus on sustainably sourced pieces.

However, the Pandemic put my non-essential purchasing on hold because I am not going anywhere! That coupled with the BLM issues of 2020, I decided to add a new focus to my wardrobe purchases.

My plan is still to prioritize sustainably sourced clothing, but I have been on the hunt for black-owned clothing brands.

Support Black-Owned Brands

Turns out that there are a TON of black-owned brands selling everything from affordable to high-end clothing. I found so many that I am overwhelmed!

After finding these brands, I do not have any excuses! I will have to purchase online and play the exchange game, but that’s a small inconvenience.

Moving forward my capsule wardrobe purchases will be from brands that are either:

  1. Sustainably sourced and Black-owned
  2. Sustainably sourced
  3. Black-owned

If I really cannot find the item I desire from one of these options, I will shop from a big box retailer’s sustainable collection. My main focus is still quality first, so I anticipate a fair amount of trial and error moving forward.

Also, I’m Adding To My Capsule!

Recently, I realized that our voluntary confinement presents me with an opportunity. One thing I have learned, working from home, is that I need at least a few good leisure outfits that can transition from home to errands.

fancy home body

I enjoy jogger pants and a sweatshirt with sneakers for an easy home to errand transition. For a bit more of an elevated look, I like jeans and a blouse with a sleek pair of neutral shoes.

My Zoom meeting uniform is a blouse and joggers :-). This can easily be transitioned with a pair of jeans. Therefore my current priority is acquiring these items in my wardrobe.

My To Buy List

Black-owned brand Fancy Homebody sells great jogger sets! She does a once a month sale, so I have to jump and choose items when available. Right now I am thinking of two pant jogger sets and one short set.

Also, I want to complete my jeans collection. I need a pair of black denim pants, a pair of skinny jeans, and a pair of close-fitting straight leg denim jeans from my list. Levi is my go-to for sustainably sourced denim, so I plan to visit my local Levi’s store soon.

black owned brands

Shoe wise, I will FINALLY purchase a pair of military boots! Black-owned brand, Malone Souliers has a pair very similar to Doctor Martens but with a different flair. Though there are more shoes I covet, I think at this moment, they are all I require for the cold months ahead.

I may also purchase one item from my Sa Voir de Sois list, but I may wait. My coins will make the final decision.
